Donors gave hundreds of gifts for Catholic Charities of Oregon’s annual Toy and Joy Shoppe. The conference rooms at Catholic Charities were transformed into a North Pole outpost where parents and children of needy families could pick gifts and have them wrapped.
The gifts came from an Amazon wish list as well as from Central Catholic High School, Kroger, Providence St. Vincent Medical Group, Oregon Catholic Press, Holy Family School, All Saints School, St. Juan Diego Parish, Holy Redeemer School and generous cash donations.
Catholic Charities was able to help an estimated 130 households – gifting more than 500 toys to children and more than $2,000 in gift cards for teenagers.
“Catholic Charities is honored to share the season of giving with our clients and residents,” says Jen Toohey, volunteer services coordinator for Catholic Charities and organizer of the toy drive. “Our volunteers were grateful for the opportunity to be part of a wonderful event and enjoyed seeing the families and smiles. I am very happy with the number of children we were able to provide gifts/gift cards for — it would not have been possible if it was not for the wonderful people who donated! I appreciate the generosity of our donors so much.”
