There may be fewer refugees arriving in Oregon, but those resettled by Catholic Charities in recent months remember move-in day to their new apartments.
It’s one of the most important things Catholic Charities refugee services workers have done: help our new neighbors find housing, obtain furniture, learn how the Oregon landlord tenant law works, how to understand a lease, and how to find nearby amenities like schools and grocery stores.
Often, it’s been all hands on deck. There had been as many as three move-ins in one week.
The refugee team banded together with everyone across the department helping out to ensure that our refugee families could move into safe and affordable housing.
It could not have happened without volunteers helping make people’s transitions as easy as possible.
