My Christmas Is Brighter at The Village

Posted by | Lesley Overhauser

I love Christmas time.

The days are getting shorter, and the candlelight is getting brighter.

Watching the landscape transform with twinkling lights fills my heart. Pictures with Santa!

The hustle and bustle! Even in the most challenging times, I would find a way to celebrate.

For the last 5 years I have been living in my van.  Euphemistically a van-lifer.  I was homeless.

It had its challenges, but I made it work.

When Christmas drew closer, I would make the rounds and visit many of the beautiful neighborhoods that Portland has to offer.  Taking in the twinkling lights, and the Santas with their reindeer, a sight to behold.

My sentimental nature kept my spirits high.

I spent a lot of time reflecting on my youth.  Reaching out to old friends and reminiscing.

But This year is different.

I finally have a roof over my head…  I am now a guest at the Kenton Women’s Village…  I have found my way onto housing waitlists and have made new friends.

I think this will be the best Christmas ever as I am filled with hope, and prosperity.

I am so blessed…

I am eternally grateful… because things do get better.

I am sending much love to all and wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!
