MAKING IT A HOME

Posted by | Catholic Charities Communications

With building anticipation for the upcoming opening of Francis + Clare in Southeast Portland and Beacon at Glisan Landing in Northeast Portland this fall, Catholic Charities of Oregon is preparing to welcome their future residents with warmth and compassion.

Using a grant from Multnomah County, Catholic Charities of Oregon staff are busy buying dishes, sheets, towels, brooms and other household goods as welcome gifts for future residents of affordable housing.

Francis+Clare in Southeast Portland and Beacon at Glisan Landing in Northeast Portland are set to open this fall. They will combine to house 102 people who have faced homelessness.

Sally Erickson, Community Services Director for Catholic Charities of Oregon, shows some of the supplies stored in her office awaiting the opening of housing for people with disabilities who are transitioning from homelessness.

“These are items that will really make the units feel like a home,” said Sally Erickson, Community Services Director for Catholic Charities.

As staff await completion of the two buildings, the boxes of goods are starting to fill many empty spaces at the Catholic Charities headquarters.

Household supplies funded by Multnomah County and ordered by Catholic Charities staff, pile up in the agency’s garage awaiting the opening of two affordable housing sites for people who are transitioning from homelessness to their own apartments.

Amanda Rozmer, Yvette Curiel and Ken Davis are planning how to get household goods to new residents.
