Catholic Charities of Oregon recently partnered with Providence, Ride Connection, and Fred Meyer to host a health fair/vaccine clinic at Sacred Heart Villa, one of Catholic Charities’ affordable housing properties for older adults and people with disabilities.
Thirty Sacred Heart residents attended the event. They had the opportunity to get blood pressure checks, have one-on-one visits with a health care provider and talk with representatives from Ride Connection and various Providence programs to learn about health-related classes and resources.
The Community Teaching Kitchen led a healthy cooking demonstration and made a tasty seasonal chili that all the residents got to sample.
A local Fred Meyer pharmacy team provided and administered 30 vaccines (flu, COVID-19 and RSV), with a number of folks receiving two or more vaccines.
Mobility issues and a lack of transportation make it difficult for many Sacred Heart residents to get to off-site vaccine appointments. By providing immunizations on-site, Catholic Charities can make vaccines more accessible and help protect vulnerable residents.
