Amy Jordens of Portland has donated two vehicles to Catholic Charities and feels great about it.
“Several years ago, we replaced our 1989 minivan with a newer model,” Jordens tells us. “The van had belonged to my husband’s grandparents and was in good shape with very low miles when we started using it. When we were ready to replace it, we felt that it still had life in it and could be useful for someone else while also benefiting Catholic Charities.”
Jordens knows she and her husband could have sold the van themselves, but knew that would be a time-consuming hassle. In their minds, the ease of donation and the tax benefit offset whatever cash may have come their way.
And most of all, the donation would help an organization she trusts and admires.
So when another car was getting along – 25 years old — it was a simple decision to do it again.
“The donation process itself was very easy,” said Jordens. “After I completed the form online, a representative from Catholic Charities contacted me to confirm my intent to donate and explain the process. Then someone from Speed’s Towing called to arrange a time to pick up the vehicle. I work from home, so I was able to be here when they picked it up, but that isn’t necessary; they can also arrange a pickup even if you won’t be home.”
Jordens concludes that the move saved her time and did good for a cause she believes in. It may be awhile before she has another old car, but she’s pretty sure what she’ll do with it.
