During the Thanksgiving season here at Catholic Charities, we have been reflecting on the words of G.K. Chesterton, one of the great Catholic thinkers, who wrote: “Thanks are the highest form of thought, and gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” As I write this letter of thanks, I’m thinking about how your generosity has touched so many lives this year.
Every time I visit our food pantry and see families leaving with bags full of groceries, when I hear the story of another refugee family finding their first home in America, or when we provide shelter to those experiencing homelessness, I think of you. Your support makes these moments possible—these aren’t just programs you support; they’re real people whose lives you’ve touched.
What fills me with wonder is your willingness to sacrifice for the good of others. This selfless giving represents humanity at its finest. I understand the personal commitment such generosity requires, and I’m deeply moved by your dedication to our mission. Chesterton also wrote, “When it comes to life, the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” I want you to know that we cherish your partnership in this vital work. Every gift you’ve given represents hope renewed for someone in need, and that’s something we will never take for granted. With heartfelt gratitude, doubled by wonder, Kaleen Deatherage Interim Executive Director |
