Giving Machines

Posted by | Catholic Charities Communications

In rural Mexico, Maria was targeted by a human trafficker. Now, Catholic Charities Immigration Legal Services is helping guide her toward legal residency and citizenship. In Southeast Portland, Bobbie is a human anchor at a Catholic Charities of Oregon senior housing site.

These are just two stories from the thousands of people Catholic Charities of Oregon has helped with support like that which came from the 2023 Light the World Giving Machines, an initiative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Earlier this year, a team from the LDS Light the World committee presented more than $29,000 for the agency’s work.

Catholic Charities will again be a beneficiary this Christmas.

The money comes from donors who at Christmas give via the big red vending machines at Washington Square Mall. Donors can see cards representing good works from various agencies and donate to support those causes.
