Catholic Sentinel: Gift drive for children starting

Catholic Charities of Oregon’s annual Client Christmas Event is upon us. Every year Catholic Charities partners with local business to supply toys and other gifts for our client’s families during the holiday season.

“For more than 15 years each autumn, Catholic Charities case managers have assessed and polled their clients, developing a catalog of gifts to submit to businesses who want to help. Central Catholic High School, for example, takes a large list of needed presents and then students, staff and parents get busy. The items get purchased and wrapped by donors and then Catholic Charities makes deliveries. Oregon Catholic Press, publisher of this newspaper, participates, as does Providence Health and Services, Holy Family Parish, St. Anthony Village, and Kroeger, the company that owns Fred Meyer stores.”

New residents will need supplies

In October, Catholic Charities of Oregon will welcome 142 households to their new homes at Good Shepherd Village apartments in Happy Valley. Among the residents at this new, light-filled building will be 58 families and Veterans with very low incomes who are transitioning from homelessness.
