Catholic Sentinel: Fires pose danger to homeless, neighbors

Posted by | Raeann Boero, Communications Coordinator

Chief Program Officer, Rose Bak, spoke with the Catholic Sentinel regarding the most recent of three fires this fall occurring in abandoned buildings occupied by individuals experiencing homelessness.

This most recent fire occurred in the abandoned home across from Catholic Charities of Oregon’s Clark Family Center on 28th and Powell. The home was completely demolished by the fire, severely damaging the two homes on either side; the intense heat even broke a few windows at Clark Family Center. “We were all saddened about the fire,” shared Rose Bak,  “It’s a very good example of why we need to pull together as a community to help people get inside to locations that are safe for habitation, whether it’s housing, shelters or villages”.
